Research Summary :

Nutrition Information (NI) On Processed Food Products Needs To Be Understood By The Public, As Excessive Consumption Of Food Components Such As Sugar, And Fats (SSF) Can Increase The Risk Of Non Communicable Diseases (Ncds). The World Health Organization (WHO) States That 66% Of Deaths In Indonesia Are Attributed To Ncds And Pose A Significant Mortality Risk. This 66% Includes Cardiovascular Diseases (Arrhythmia, Cardiomyopathy, Deep Vein Thrombosis), Cancer, Diabetes Mellitus, Kidney, Stroke, And Other Non-Communicable Diseases. The Food Regulatory Authorities Have Implemented Mechanisms For Providing NI On Processed Food Products In Indonesia, With Business Operators Being Obligated To Display This Information, Backed By The Threat Of Sanctions. The Era Of Globalization And Digital Transactions Has Expanded The Potential For The Public To Consume Imported Processed Food Products. At Least Five (5) ASEAN Member Countries Have Already Established Regulation And Oversight For The Mandatory Inclusion Of NI. Therefore, Harmonizing Oversight At The Regional Level Within ASEAN Becomes Necessary, While Implementation Poses Its Own Challenges.”
