Faculty of Law, Universitas Trisakti Hosts National Seminar: “Quo Vadis Draft Law on Asset Seizure from Criminal Acts”

Jakarta, November 21, 2024 – The Faculty of Law Universitas Trisakti reaffirmed its commitment to being a leading center for legal studies by hosting a National Seminar titled “Quo Vadis Draft Law on Asset Seizure from Criminal Acts.” The event was held on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at the Auditorium of Building H, 2nd Floor, Campus A, Universitas Trisakti.

The seminar was officially opened by Dr. Dra. Hj. Siti Nurbaiti, S.H., M.H., Dean of the Faculty of Law, who highlighted the importance of discussing this draft law as a critical step in strengthening efforts to prevent and combat economic crimes, particularly corruption and other transnational organized crimes.

“We hope this seminar will provide strategic insights for shaping national legal policy, especially in refining the substance of the Draft Law on Asset Seizure from Criminal Acts,” said Dr. Siti Nurbaiti.

The seminar featured renowned speakers, including:

  • Dr. R. Narendra Jatna, S.H., LL.M., Deputy Attorney General for Civil and State Administrative Affairs (Jamdatun RI), who discussed the legal and technical aspects of the draft law, drawing comparisons with international practices.
  • Dr. Albert Aries, S.H., M.H., a criminal law expert from Universitas Trisakti, who examined the paradigm shift from a focus on perpetrators (in personam) to asset recovery from criminal acts (in rem), emphasizing non-conviction-based mechanisms, balanced proof principles, and the draft law’s procedural status as lex specialis within Indonesia’s Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP).
  • S. Dicky Anandya, a representative from Indonesian Corruption Watch (ICW), who presented recent data on anti-corruption efforts and highlighted the urgency of enacting the Draft Law on Asset Seizure related to criminal acts.

The dynamic discussions were moderated by Bhatara Ibnu Reza, S.H., M.Si., LL.M., Ph.D., a lecturer at the Faculty of Law and an expert in international criminal law. The seminar attracted academics, students, and legal practitioners, who contributed critical perspectives during the Q&A session.

The event aimed to enrich the national legal framework and accelerate the deliberation of the Draft Law on Asset Seizure from Criminal Acts.

Through this seminar, the Faculty of Law at Universitas Trisakti reaffirmed its dedication to advancing legal reform, combating corruption, and fostering a just and equitable legal system in Indonesia.
